urgent need for phone help(hiptop)?

recently my hiptop went through the wash and i waited a few days before turning it on to let it air out but some of the buttons on the phone don't work so i looked on the telstra website to see if i could buy a new one only to find out that they do not do the hiptop plan anymore but i was wondering if i could buy a sidekick lx unlocked and use it with my plan (i have 3months left) but will telstra let me change to the sidekick even though it has a IMEI number and also what happens after your plan expires do i have to start paying for sms
