A nanny suspected of killing the two young children she was caring for on Oct. 25 in their Upper West Side apartment was charged on Saturday night with first-degree murder, the police said.
The nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, 50, is charged with fatally stabbing the children, Lucia Krim, 6, and her brother, Leo, 2. Ms. Ortega, who the police say tried to kill herself after the attack, has been recuperating at NewYork–Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The police said New York City police detectives interviewed her Saturday afternoon at her bedside at the hospital, where she had been under police guard since the killings at 57 West 75th Street. She was charged with two counts each of first- and second-degree murder.
Ms. Ortega, who remains hospitalized under guard, lived at an apartment on Riverside Drive with her teenage son and other relatives.
