Upper Back Tension

My back is constantly tight, and it is always cracking.
These knots are so painful that sometimes I have trouble sitting or laying down.

It's very persistant and even if I get a massage after a day the tension is back.


Any suggestions?
 
Have you tried a series of stretching and exercises for the back and shoulder area? There are many resources out there, books, library, online, that will show you the type of things you can try to get the muscles to relax. A physical therapist or exercise therapist could also show you things that would be of help.

Do you do a lot of work sitting, or sitting at a computer. Many people carry all their tension through their shoulders.
 
Have you had a doctor take a look? when you say tight it sound like it could be muscle spams. Also if the knots are bad they can use something called trigger point injections. SounRAB worse then it is. I had some up my shoulder & neck. Caused all sorts of pain & headaches. When the doctor I was being seen by at the time did the injections it sort of disolved the knots. On the way home I could feel the headache going away. Thank god as it was Christmas eve day. Did not even know I had them until the doctor pointed them out & I was in spasm constantly. Thinking back perhaps that is what contributed to the knots.
There's alway moist heat but I'm sure youve tried that one.
I have upper back pain & every time my PM or his PA examines me I'm super tight & in spasm. I take a muscle relaxer & that helps me somewhat.

I'm a student, so I guess there is a good amount of sitting in my every day life.
I will try stretches, and see what the results are.

I'm going to a holistic doctor this weekend, so i'll see what he has to say. Thank you guys soo much for your input!
