My upper back - between my shoulder blades - has been kind of stiff for months now and I got pretty used to it. But for the last few days, it's actually begun to hurt. It's radiating from a small area, but I can feel it. It's definitely not chest pain.
Me being the hypochondriac I am was concerned it was a heart or lung problem, but I think it's my spine since I can press on my spine in the sore spot and feel it even more. I don't think I could do that if it were my heart. I'm way too young for a heart attack too - I'm only 22. And I figure a lung problem would feel more one-sided, but this pain is right in the center of my back on or over my spine.
But why would my back just up and start hurting out of the blue? And why does it make me short of breath? I have been short of breath for a few years, but this back pain worsens it. I have never sustained a back or neck injury, so that would not be a cause.
Also, I kind of feel like I have something in my throat. I wonder if this could be an esophageal problem or reflux. But what say folks here? Has anyone ever had back pain like this? I might ask my doctor since I have to go in for a physical this week...I won't be able to get any treatment for it (no insurance - I'm only getting the physical because I have to for school), but I will still ask about it.
