I was involved in a slip and fall injury that sprained my left shoulder and pulled all the muscles in my upper back 4 months ago. I have a sharp pain on my right side sort of under my shoulder blade that radiates pain through my right arm and up to the right side of my neck (not constant). All of the muscles in the upper back hurt constantly. I have been in PT receiving TENS and heat treatment 3 times a week along with ultra sound therapy once a week. I began to feel some relief after 2 months of treatment, and then have been at a stand still ever since. It actually feels as though it is getting worse. Does this sound like nerve damage? I would love any advice on what I should do next to get this healed as soon as possible.

There is quick and painless test to find out if there is nerve damage. Ask for an EMG nerve conduction study. If you already had the test then only time is going to heal you and it might take months and months and would only think that medications would relieve you of pain. good luck.

Thanks!~ I have not had one...but I will certainly ask for one. Do you think an MRI would help any?

An MRI would help. Make sure they do a Cervical and Thoracic MRI. The pain you describe can be indicative of a problem in the cervical spine. You should look for a dermatome map of the spine online. That will show you the path that nerves take. When I had problems at C5-C7 it manifested as pain through my shoulder blade and down my left arm to my index and middle fingers.

I also had the same pain that SpineAZ stated she had when she had problems with the cervical spine. Mine was also with C4/C5 & C5/C6 and I am having surgery on January 4th for the C6/C7 and my surgeon stated that that specific pain does come with those disc problems.

I hope you can get the relief that you need because I know how painful it can be and it even irritated me so bad that I was a very unhappy person.:(
