Upper back disc compressed

Hey guys i compressed a disc (didnt know at the time) in my upper back about a month ago and went to the doctors a week ago to get the news. He just told me not to lift anything heavy and wear a brace for a few months. Do compressed discs heal?? I am in quiet a bit of pain here and it just seems weird that this is the only option. Will the disc heal to the point of no pain? Do you usually have to get surgery to "fix" this pain? thanks!!
 
I have never heard of a compressed disc healing itself. I know that there are manipulations that can be done to help relieve the pressure of a compressed disc, but I have never heard of it healing itself, especially to the point of no pain. That part sort of confounRAB me. My suggestion would be to get to a good back/neck doc and see what can be done to help with your pain for starters.
 
thanks for the reply, does anyone else know of any info on this injury, it is highly painful and the doctor just told me to wait it out..... that doesn't seem like the most substantial advice i could of gotten.
