Upgrading to T5

I think I've finally decided to upgrade my failing TT to a T5. I've looked over the message boards and can't find any recently discussed negatives. Aside from not having built-in Wifi- what are the problems or potential problems with the T5?

Well, sorry to put a downer on things but I've spent so many days and evenings recently reintalling things or solviing other problems that I can no longer recommend the T5 to anyone. It's simply very unstable and riddled with problems. I am a longtime Palm user and have probably spent hundreds of dollars on Palm devices and software over the years but I cannot recommend this device.

Wait until Palm sort the problems out or think seriously about another platform.

Nick does make some valid points. I have a T5. Things are better with the recent update that PalmOne has issued. I need the space that is provides. As I have three different backup programs running, things are a little better. I am just patient with mine, give it positive strokes, and backup FREQUENTLY!

I had some initial problems when I set up the T5 from a TT but now that I have everything installed, sanitized and up to date with the new update I find it is great. Much quicker and less prone to crash than before the update. I had to do a clean install and ensured that all applications were as up to date as can be. I have also had intermittent problems with Docs to Go and have several times uninstalled it from the T5 then reinstalled it. That seems to have solved the occasional fatal exception after synching.

I am very pleased with my T5

Question, do you need the space because of the 3 backups running? If so, would more stable device mean that you wouldn't need as many backups, and therefore need less space. Not being difficult, just curious.

I appreciate all of the comments regarding the T5. I don't have the patience or the time to deal with an unstable machine. Is the E2 a problem as well or is this a more stable palm?
It may just be easier to deal with the quirks in my present TT until the next machine comes out (when???)

I wouldnt call it an unstable machine, just one that requires a bit more time and attention to set up right in the first place. Once you have it running it is no hassle at all. I back up daily and have one back up program and that seems to do the job.

I'd love to think of myself as a geek, Carol! Not only that, I am a granny-ager female geek (though not sure that anyone else would acknowledge the geek status!)
 
Not really, I am a self-employed registered dietitian and I go to several types of healthcare facilities. I have opted to carry all of my references in software or ebook formats. That is why I need the space. The 3 backups take up little space compared to my reference materials. To the public eye, nutrition may be nutrition anywhere, but that is really the furtherest from the case. I am dealing with many very ill people with different types of therapeutic menus, complex nutritional needs, and different routes of getting nutrition versus just by eating orally.

Angela, I agree with you have the T5 - it isn't unstable, it is just quirky in the set up and maintenance. I couldn't live without mine.
I adore being a geek. I also adore the fact that there is a female here a little close to my age. This year I hit the 1/2 century mark..... :eek: Through the beauty of hair coloring, I washed that gray right out of my hair! :D
