Upgrading to HD - Existing customer

Hi ppl,

I've been a BEV client for a number of years, and have a 3100 receiver. I'm not under a contract anymore so I'm hoping to get a decent deal from them that will allow me to upgrade to HD (planning to rent the 9200).

Quick question. I know the 9200 is dual tuner so I can use an additional TV to view SD, but is it possible to use the 3100 for a second tv upstairs instead? I'd hate to run cabling though the entire house. Is it possible for the installer to just run a separate wire from the antenna directly upstairs and into the 3100? (the current setup is a coax from the antenna into the basement directly). That way I'd have the 9200 downstairs and the 3100 upstairs...

So, my question is - would the second receiver incur a monthly fee?

I am not sure about additional fees, I think that all depends on the current programming package that you are on.

As for your installation, the 9200 will require 2 separate lines in from the Dish, or more accurately from an SW44, most likely mounted at the rear of the Dish.

There is no reason why the 3100 cannot be left where it is and used independently.

TV2 output can be run to another location if you request it, it will not cost any extra, it is included with a 9200 installation and is referred to as a "back-feed".

The installer will or should work with you to find a way to route the cables that is acceptable to both of you.
 
If you are with the older programming package, meaning you currently have a system charge of 5.99$ on you accout monthly you would have a multiple receiver fee of 2.99$ if you have the movies or 4.99$ if you don't when you add the receiver.

You an also, at the time choose to go with the current progamming package on which there is no extra charges for the second receivers. Also if you are with the older programming packages you won't get all th HD channels while by moving on to the current packages you will.

If you have the current programming packages, there would be no extra fee to get the programming on the second receiver.

You probably currenly do not have Nimiq 2 programming, and therefore will be eligible for the Nimiq 2 "free upgrade", which will give you the upgrade kit and the receiver installed free of charge if you add programming requiring the "upgrade kit", like HD, AOV movies or internationnal programming, and keep it for a minimum 6 months.

If you go with rental option Express Vu will make yo buy a retal certificate that will cost you 100$ + tax. It would be charged right away, as soon as the order is placed on a credit card. Whithout a credit card you an not place an order throught Direct Sales (on the phone). This rental certificate will be credited on the bill ollowing the activation of the receiver. Also as an existing client who "upgrade" equpement to HD you will get 6 months of HD programming free of charge. Rental cost is 10$ for the 6100 (standard HD) or 20$ for the 9200 (PVR HD)

If you buy you won't get the 6 months of HD programming free of charge. Also with the new MPEG4 receivers comming I don't think it's a good idea. 6100 will cost you 300$ and 9200 will cost you 600$

To get the HD channels you need to add the HD Value Pack to your programming packae. HD Value Pack is
10$/month

Certain HD channel requires that you suscribe to the equivalent SD channel to be able to get it HD, for example TSN, Sportsnet, Movie East or Movie Central
 
Best way to leverage the deal and get an even better deal is to call up an cancel your service. They should then send you to the retentions department. Once their then hash out a good deal on the phone with them, they have the power to grant the deal. Be armed with other providers deals. Some examples have been 2 year contracts with the PVR rental for free for the entire contract and free HD for a year (the $10.00 value pac). Read about here on other threads at DHC. Unfortunately you must threaten them to et a better deal.
And yes IMHO rent do not buy, but if you must buy wait for the MPEG4 receivers.
 
That's pretty much what I ironed out with them so far..

They offered free installation and no-charge for the rental of the 9200, as well as the ability to keep using my 3100 as a second receiver at no charge.

I have not yet been offered any type of programming credit yet, but I'm not in a hurry. My internet contract is expiring soon so if they want to lock me in, they'll have to do better. :)
