Bell has a Olympic Promo where you get 50 % off receivers.
But this is only for new customers.

I would like to upgrade to HD for the new TV I have just bought.

A CSR have told me I would have to talk to the Rentntion Dept and fight for the same deal.
I would buy the HD Receiver that they are offering for $149
They have just told me they wouldn't give me that deal.

I have been a customer since 2004 on an old package that has 7 themes and have ( 2 ) 3100 receivers.

So under the old billing I pay 59.97 a month.
My new bill would go up to $65 and I don't want to rent and add another $10 to my bill I would prefer to buy

But is that a good idea ?
Am I being unreasonable to think they should offer the same deal if I upgrade my package ?

Even if you pay FULL price for the HD receiver, you are entitled to a FREE installation, worth $75. You will also get a FREE Upgrade, worth over $200.

Do not forget, your monthly bill will increase by at least $10 per month anyway, if you add HD programming.

Not the worst deal I have ever heard of.

That's not quite true due to changes in Bell's billing

right now I pay $48.99 + $5.99 system charge +$4.99 for a another receiver that I own =59.97

If I choose the Essential Value Package ( 5 themes ) in HD i would pay

$62.00 +3 access fee = $ 65 before taxes which would make a 6.03 difference.

I am just trying to keep the monthly cost down as it seems to be getting more than I am comfortable with paying every month.

Sorry I was out by $3.97.

I cannot find the Essential Value Package on Bell's Web Site.

The only offer they have right now for existing customers is $100 off the 9242 PVR. They will never offer existing customers the same deal as new. Go ahead...threaten to leave....they really don't care! You have to be gone for at least 3 months B4 you come back so it isn't worth the aggravation to save 200 bucks IMO

After all the posts here of people getting special retention offers after "threatening" to leave, how can you say they don't care??

-Mike

data dan, they do care, it's just sad that you have to theaten to cancel...i just received 40% off my programming for 12 months and $300 off of a 9242 the other day which is in line with what others have been reporting.

so the retention offers are still there.

After seeing the ad in the newspaper for $400 off the 9242, I called Bell today to upgrade, know full well the CSR would tell me it's for new customers only.
Once she did that, I said I didn't think it was right for them to treat new customers better than existing ones, and also that I was tired of all the rain fade this summer and had been thinking of switching to Cogeco until I saw the ad.
That's when she transferred me to retentions.
The retention agent immediately offered me 50% ($300) off the 9242, which is Bell's portion of the promotion. (The extra $100 is an in-store rebate.)
I reminded her that the newpaper ad said $400 off, and she offered me two free months of programming, which is $112 for me.
That was good enough for me.

Plus the first available installation appointment is next weekend so I don't even have to take time off work, which was a bonus.

The whole phone call took 20 minutes, and the CSR and retention agent were probably the two most competant and helpful people I've ever dealt with at Bell. (At least, we'll see how competant they really were when I get my next few bills and check that all the credits are there.) The retention agent even suggested that I'd be better off trying to sell my 6100 privately rather then sell it back to Bell as a "buyback".

Interesting to see what you got Baal. I called, was told the $100 off PVR was all that was available and threatened to leave. The CSR simply said "Is there anything else that I can do for you today?" Maybe I need to call back again and tell them they have one more chance to keep me or I'm going to Rogers.... even if I would hate to do that.

I bought my 2nd 9242 at FS for $499 a couple of months ago knowing some people on this forum who are existing customers claim to have received the 50% off credit. I called and CSR said no but I said I have been long customer and continue to upgrade all my receivers (I have 6). Transferred to retention dept and explained my disappointment and in turn the rep offered me $200. I said not good enough, so she put me on hold and came back to offer me 30% off my bill for next 12 months....which comes to just under $400, and threw in 4 free PPV as icing on the cake. It can be done with a bit of persistence.

Well I got my 9242 ordered today. Called back and did the whole "unhappy customer" thing and got 50% off. I hate having to do that but in the end it was worth it.
