Phone is CX65 sw25 variant A 215 - BT Mobile (unlocked)
& I want to upgrade to sw50 (from Siemens site) but don't wish to risk re-enabling SP-lock as I had to pay to have it done when I got the phone - none of the s/w I had at the time worked!!!
The variant is listed as BT Mobile on firmware selection.

Will another variant work or will it kill my phone?

Any help appreciated

It will not lock your phone !

And yes, you can use another variant also !

Thanks very much for that info m8. Will try it later & post results.
Reason I asked is whenever I reflashed my old C35 I had to unlock it again .. not a problem as I have working software for most sw versions & in any case my contract SIM worked, as it's same network (o2) as phone sp lock, so I could still use it.

Yeah - a lot of the older unlockers didn't really unlock the phone - they just patched the firmware so that it ignored the lock, so when you reflashed it would lock again.

If you remove the SIM and enter *#0606# it shows the lock state on the second screen - as long as all 5 lines show "unbarred", you can reflash with no problem - if any of them show locks (and the phone is apparently unlocked), then you have modified firmware - and you shouldn't reflash it.

Thanks m8 have checked this & phone is definitely 100% unlocked .. but damn cable I have won't work it seems I have to get hold of a genuine (preferably serial) cable for this phone Unless anyone knows how to mod a Mobile-Action MA-8720C cable that is it charges the phone but does fook all else

I've used a couple of those mobile action cables - they normally have one of the Prolific PL2303 USBSerial bridge chips in them, and should work with no problems with the unlocking software - what it is identified as in device manager?

Assuming you're running XP, what's the "Device Instance Id" on the "Details" tab in device manager?

It should be something like this:

USB\VID_067b&PID_2303\5&79E2CC8&0&1

(These numbers are the defaults for the Prolific chip)

Very similar Device Instance ID (and the same chip it seems).

USB\VID_067b&PID_2303\6&37B0C6EB&0&1 (Hardware Rev 0202)

Identified as MAT USB to Serial Bridge. Phone sees it as a charger though so maybe that is why the Siemens firmware flashing utility can't connect to the phone.

The various unlocking software I tried did detect the phone & read some info from it but wouldn't unlock it!

Running XP Pro. Have access to a laptop with IR & xp Corporate Edition installed will try the comms software on it later

Just want to be able to routinely back up my SMS messages/archive as it's getting rather full, plus I'll lose them if the fone fooks up ..
