Upgrade in July, what should I go for?

Hey guys!

I'm new to these forums, but I'm glad I found this because people's opinions are always some of the most important factors for me to determine what to buy, where, when, etc.

So, I found out from Verizon that I have an upgrade in July. I'm 18 and with a family share plan, so I'm guessing that I only get around $100 in credit when I upgrade, no? In any case, my current phone, the black Chocolate VX8500, the original, is starting to really get nasty, as well it is starting to fall apart. Just last weekend the entire front sliding face came off from the back part, and was merely connected by the data transfer wire (whatever you call it, it's like a thin sheet of paper). Luckily, my brother was somehow able to tighten the screws or something and it's in as great a condition as when I bought it, minus the scratches, dirt, etc.

So, now that the story is done, I would like anyone and everyone's opinion on what I should get for my next phone. While I'm looking to save money since I'm off to college next fall, I still would like to keep up with the modern tech of cell phones (as fast as it's progressing I doubt that's possible). What are your recommendations as a new phone? Should I go with the newer Chocolate VX8550? Or maybe move further on to the Venus, or possibly the Razr2 (which I really like, but don't know much about minus some review vidz on Youtube)? Also, give me how much you'd expect me to be paying for the phone which I hope you will so avidly support in my decision.

Thanks in advance guys, I know this is a huge wall o' text, but there are good intentions behind it. What is your choice cell phone?

Ok, first of all you probably won't get the $100 credit you are referring to because only the primary line on a FamilyShare (most likely one of your parents) gets that credit.

Now, on to your original question: If you can get your hands on an LG VX-8300 (NOT an 8350), that would probably be your best bet. It's inexepnsive, but not cheap (in other words, it's a high-quality phone despite the low price). However, these aren't sold anymore, so you'd have to find one on eBay.

Don't get a RAZR if you don't have to. Verizon is giving them away, but there's a reason for that: They're trying to get rid of them. RAZRs, especially the V3m, are known for random restarts, lockups, and other random problems.

As for current phones...the K1m is pretty good. It's basically like a RAZR without the problems associated with an actual RAZR. And it's only $69 if you sign a two-year contract.

Hmmm I am not a Verizon employee, or a razr advocate...BUT...I have had a V3M for 3 years, not one problem. My Son has a V3c with ATT, no problems. One of my good friends has had a razr 4 years...no problem, my girlfriend has a krzr, no problems there either.

My 2 cents.

I was always a big fan of lg phones until i tried the Motorola w755. Motorola won me back with this phone. Awsome phone and awsome price. The new LG Chocolate looks nice and has nice features but I really do not think it is worth it at that price. What I look for in a phone first is great call quality than if it is a decent music phone which this phone is and third thecamera. The camera is ok for what I use it for. Also the nice thing about the Motorola w755 is you can turn on the bluetooth when phone is closed. Has alot of features at a awsome price. Give it a try if you don't like it you can return.
