Updating my unlocked 1st Gen iPhone to 3.1.2?

I bought my iPhone off a friend, it's been unlocked and I currently use it on Virgin simply by popping the sim into the tray. I want to update it to the latest firmware (3.1.2) it's currently on 1.0.2, If I do this will my SIM still work? If not how do I re-unlock it to virgin. I don't really want all of that jailbroken stuff like changed interfaces, purley the update and keeping my virgin SIM.

But I dunno if this is the same for england as the US is under AT&T which i understand doesnt have a pay&go option yet whereas we do? Will my iphone be re-blocked if I update?

i-phone's can only be unlocked by patch. So therfore if you update the firmware it WILL lock back to the original network. You can unlock it again though, most mobile phone shops should be able to do this.
