1st, read my post on "l5s1 fusion need help" thread.

omg, just woke up 15 mins ago and felt like I was in a coffin. First real long sleep and my whole body stiffened. I have arthritis that they wont let me have nsaid for dt they say inhibits bone graft growth. plus last dose of oxy I asked to try only 10 mgs not 15. Thought i was doing good thing, but I made mistake, They gave me 0.4 dilaudid and instantly brought me from 9 to 6-7. Need to keep pain under control. this keeps my mind off my pain.
peace and prAyers,
Brett

Sorry you had a rough night...but it does sound like you are progressing....You WILL feel better each day...the 1st 2 weeks are the worst..I'm just over 2 weeks (16 days exactly) and each day gets better but you will feel exhausted....Make sure you eat lots of protein (health store shakes are great you can make them at home) and drink lots of water.....

In a few more days you will feel better...can't believe you feel up to posting frm a laptop..

GOOD FOR YOU>>>>>

:)

Heyy, 2B...I just posted you well wishes on your surgery on another thread. I guess it's over now. I suppose you are still in the hospital, right? At least I would think so, hoping you are & that you have a laptop there. Thats beat that you cant take your arthritis meRAB right now, I know how terrible the stiffness gets. You definitely do need to keep up with any pain meRAB to keep it under control. You have to take them on schedule or you'll be sorry. Even if you are feeling pain on the meRAB, if you go to long before getting onther pill, you will feel it and wish it didnt happen. And I didnt even have fusion, i only had laminectomies. Take care, get some rest and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Hey 2B, I can't believe your posting in the hospital. I am almost 6 weeks post-op L5/S1 fusion so I know exactly where your at. TAKE YOUR PAIN MERAB, FULL STRENGTH AND ON TIME. I never had any discomfort in the hospital because I did just that. Have you been up to walk yet? They had me up the first day. It was suprisingly easy. My advise is to rest up, the first week was the easiest for me. Not to scare you but it gets rough at week two but it's just part of the healing process that we all have to go through. I know you have been preparing for this for a while and have read many posts so you somewhat know what to expect. We all progress differently. Wishing you a pain free day, lots of rest, and much luck in your healing process...................Debbie

Yes, the first two weeks are definitely the worst. My doctor said not to leave the house. Just walk down the hall and back. I used a walker for the first month. Dont be discouraged by how tired you will be! You will be WIPED from just walking a little! After the first 4 weeks or so you'll notice things getting better rapidly. The important thing to remeraber is that it will seem like you're not making much progress, and you may feel like you really should be doing more, but the time for that will come later. For now, just enjoy the time off. Join a dvd mail service, find a grocery store that delivers, get that cable upgrade!

Congratulations!

David - I am cleared to leave the hospital and go home today! I am looking forward to it. I called my wife, she sounded nervous. They put me on flexeril yesterday and boy, did I sleep like a baby! I am excited about the future.
Peace and prayers,
Brett

Hi, I am in the hospital. I had horrible night and morning until they got my pain managed better. I have to admit, I was frustrated and anxious but am doing better now. PT just had me walk again w/ a walker. Tomorrow, we have to try stairs because I have stairs in my house. It worries me that week 2 could be worse. They just took me down for 3 xrays of my lurabar, the resident said to see what the hardware looks like loaded. They say I will go home tomorrow or next day. I think it will be Saturday. I will keep you posted.

Peace and Prayers,
Brett

Brett,
So glad to hear that you going home. Make sure you have enough pain medication when you get home and take it easy. You are in my prayers.

Linda

Hey Brett,
Hang in there buddy and definitely take your pain meRAB on time! It's much harder to get pain back in control once you let it get out of control. That's great that you have your laptop with you! Something to do besides sleep and look at the 4 walls. Hope you are getting good care, keep us posted.

Deb

Great news! yeah, that Flexeril stuff is OK ;). It really helps put you to sleep at night. I have some leftover and on nights I can't sleep it really helps. I'm glad you're seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. Just know that there will be some bad days along the way and just keep plugging away, and after a month or so you'll start seeing really rapid improvement.

take care,
David

PS - Oh, I almost forgot! Don't be surprised if you experience a big pain spike anywhere from 1-2 weeks after you get home. This is the long-acting anesthetic wearing off, and it's to be expected.

Brett,
So glad to hear that you are going home!! You will actually get more rest and be surrounded by those who love you! Please take it easy, usually the ride home will make you REALLY tired. Take your meRAB on time and don't let the pain get ahead of you! Keep us posted!

Deb
