Hey all,

Just wanted to update you all on my appt today with my surgeon. You all know my situation, "unique situation", if you can call it that.

Anyhow after my last spine surgery I found out that the disc raplacement failed just like the 1st surgery. Not in the same way. The first one, the screws broke and the second one the disc that was replaced with cadaver bone also broke. The break was slight but it was enough to be a concern. After having an x-ray today I took it with me to my appt. My surgeon did a routine exam and then looked at the x-rays. It showed a significant change in the disc. The plate actually is almost gone! My body has absored pretty much all that bone. There is a little piece left. It's the piece that has slide forward and broke away from the rest of it at the beginning. The rest of it is just gone. My surgeon figures that it is because there was instability in the spine and as things rubbed against other things and what not, it caused the body to sort of eat away at that bone.

The situation I am in now is that I require another surgery. It will be to insert another plate with cadaver bone and BMP plus other fusing components. He will also insert a screw and whatever else he feels necesary. He will also fix anything that does not look right and or neeRAB tweeking.

Anyhow I just thought I would update those of you that I've been chatting with lately. Thanks again for all the help lately! Take care all. I wil lmost definitly be on the boarRAB in the next while. My surgery probably won't be for a while because I have some other things I am waiting on and I have to wait for a consult with a general surgeon. Talk to you soon.

Hi Beachgirl,
I hope that it's actually a relief for you to hear that you might be able to be better off. Has your doctor mentioned a bone growth stimulator? I wore one 24/7 after surgery except in the shower. I started growing bone really quickly, in spite of being at higher risk for non-fusion. Just a thought...

I wish you the best!

Ugh,((((Beachgirl))). I am sorry you are facing another surgery and pray that this surgery fixes you once and for all. I know how it is to have multiple surgeries. Fortunately mine has not been because of hardware failure.

Is this the same doctor that has done the other ones?

Forgive me I can't remeraber -- are they going to fuse multiple levels?

Please keep us posted as dates become firmed up. We might be down at the same time together.

Hugs and blessings Pepper

I very much agree with BlueAtlas. I had a bone stimulator also after two fusions with cadaver bone, and even though I am high risk for non-fusion, they both took. My surgeon did however put in roRAB, screws and brackets to keep it stable as I had fractured my L5.

Hi Beachgirl,

I am so sorry you are having to go throught his again! I hope this is the last one for you. I had BMP mixed with my own ground up bone spurs and it fused great. I hope the BMP (considered the "gold standard") works for you.I hope the stimulator works for you too.

We are still here, still listening, still concerned, and those of us who do are still praying for you!

Blessings
Michelle (formerly from Texas!)
