i have a surgery schedualed soon my doctor said that after the clavical realighnment surgery i am having that i am going to be placed on morphine wile in the hospital....he said that i cant be on suboxone when i go in for surgery because the pain medication will be counter-acted....i forgot to ask but how long before the surgery is in neccisary to stop taking the suboxone. The surgery is in a week and a half and i would just stop taking the suboxone now but i get withdrawl symptoms when i stop taking it. So how much time before the surgery should i stop taking the suboxone so that i dont have to experiance to many days of withdrawl and so that the pain meds in the hospital will not be counter acted by the opioid blocker in suboxone

Depends how much you are on. Suboxone has a hlaf life of about 37.5 hours. So that means it is still working in your system long after you take it. I aould taper down slowly as much as possible, and make sure you have not taken suboxone for at least 2-3 days before surgery. You may have mild withdrawal symptoms going into surgery, but after being off of it for 2-3 days, the morphine will then help. Good luck with surgery. Also you must be on suboxone for opiod dependence, so what will happen after you are put on morphine. I hope you do not relapse, but instead choose to go back on suboxone to make sure you stay clean. I know many people who have relapsed because they were put on narcotics at the hospital and continued to use when they got out. I hope you have the strength to stay clean!!
