Untreated asthma

Can untreated asthma cause reoccuring chest infections/viruses etc?

My wife has had this for months now. She gets over it and a week later it comes back. Sore throat, loss of voice, headaches, etc.

Been back to her GP loaRAB of time (now waiting to see specialist - NHS in the UK). GP is thinking it may be asthma and reoccuring virus?
 
Perhaps there is an allergy component? The sore throat, headache would be signs of that. At the minimum, she probably neeRAB to see a specilist - allergist or pulmonologist - to sort it out. HAve they ruled out acid reflux/gerd/etc?
 
Waiting to see a chest consultant at the moment. Like I said, at the mercy of the NHS in the UK, so gotta WAIT......

In the meantime, the GP has suggested asthma and now shes got a course of steroiRAB and an inhaler.
 
Does the malady first start in her throat or in her sinus area? Does she first feel the throat discomfort below the nasal area, or upper region, of the beginning of her throat area, or the chin side, or lower region?
