Discreet math is hard. When I went for tutoring off-campus my tutor coudln't believe that they would have a gen-ed non-majors math course that was all discreet math. She was mystified why they would do that. Discreet math is very hard to understand for some people.
When I started my BA they had a 2 year/4 consecutive semesters of one foreign language as a requirement. That changed before I graduated. Now it's only 2 consecutive semesters/1 year of a foreign language. My German professor told me at one point they were working on getting the 2nd year of the requirement dropped. There are some people out there that have some problems with learning a foreign language. I think they should re-think discreet math as a non-math major Gen-Ed requirement for the same reasons.
I can understand Gen-Ed requirements for a BA or BS...especially if you're considering grad school but they should consider Gen-Ed courses are taken my non-majors.
