Unlocking Nextel i836 and i830

Hi All -

A friend of mine gave me both a i836 and i830 Nextel phone that I would like to use as a pre-paid emergency phone for each of my sons. Does anyone know of a means to unlock the phone for usage ?

You don't need to unlock the Nextel phones to use with Boost prepaid.

However, since they use a different technology, they cannot be used with other providers. Nextel uses iDEN technology which is very different from GSM and CDMA providers. Right now, Boost Mobile has a pretty good deal on the Premium Plan, and you can get a Starter Kit from them (SIM card only) and plug it right into the Nextel phones you already have, as long as those Nextels aren't reported lost or stolen. :)
 
Your best bet is to buy a boost mobile starter kit like brad said. They run like $20 and has a $10 prepaid card already in the package.
