Unlocking a G1/MyTouch to ATT?

Hey, I'm trying to get a friend to try out Android. Unfortunately, he's on ATT, and we all know that ATT Android phones sucks. Plus, he's kind of on a budget, so he's pretty much confined to getting a used G1 or MyTouch. Having been on TMobile, I don't know anything about unlocking. I've done some research, but I still want to hear from people here. Can anyone point me in the right direction. As always, thanks for your help.
 
First thing is found one of the sites that bring unlock codes or call T-mobile to unlock the G1 or the myTouch.but with this two devices your friend never conect to 3G with AT&T just EDGE this can make him not to happy with the data and with browsing.if You think he can buy something better try to find for him a Telus Milestone from Motorola this one can connect to AT&T 3G.if this two choices don't work try to check if the Backflip is already Root this can find in any AT&T store and you know the works just ROOT
 
he's not planning on getting a data plan, so 3g isn't an issue. how do you go about getting the unlock code? this is really foreign to me.. i don't even know how to unlock. gotta do my research! thanks for the help, wonsanim. oh, and i want you to make me a custom avatar. but i can't think of anything that i really want...
 
Ok Cool No Problem with 3G,For the unlock code can call T-Mobile or search only for the Free Service also some sites charge a small fee like 5 to 10 US Dollars I try to find some links also in the way I find I post.About the Avatar I can Help Better just bring me some Ideas about and I make some samples and you decide the one you like.
 
what exactly would i tell tmobile? i like your phones, but i hate your service (that's not true, i think tmobile is much better than att)? sounds like an awkward conversation to me. is calling them the best bet in getting the unlock code, or is it possible to find them online for free?
 
oh, so do i just ask them for an unlock code? and how do they know the specific code for the phone? is there a serial code or something i give them?

I called Tmobile and got an unlock code for my shadow (long time ago). I used the phone for both Tmobile personally and ATT for work. Thats what I told them and they gave it to me.
 
As Wonsanim said, first try to call T-Mobile, however, they may only allow you to unlock it if you currently have an account in good standing (that is, and account over 90 days old). If they don't allow you to do that, then you have to go to services online. Most are trustworthy, but most unfortunately cost money. You can find some services that are free, however. You just have to look around.
 
How do you do to get the unlock code? it is really foreign to me. I do not even know how to unlock. gotta do my research! thank you for the help, wonsanim. and I want you to make a custom avatar. but I can not imagine what I really want.
