unlocked blackberry storm to use on tmobile question please?

i want to get a storm 1 and get it unlocked for tmobile...someone told me if i do so i cant call tmobile and use their blackberry data plan so meaning i wont have internet on the phone and i might lose features
this person also told me the phone is horrible and sucks to text on
can someone give me information on the unlocking, and if i can just call tmobile and ask for their bb data plan and if itd work on the storm
and tell me if its a good phone why and why not
