Hey. I’m struggling to decide what I want to study in university/college next year, as I want something that I will enjoy, but also something which will provide some decent career opportunities.
I always wanted to undertake a Bachelor of Arts, studying subjects such as history, philosophy, literature, politics, European studies, creative writing, German, etc. Would this degree only be worthwhile for the personal enjoyment I would reap from these studies, or would such studies open up career opportunities for me? Would the only career for these subjects be teaching, or is it possible to get other well-paying jobs with a Bachelor of Arts?
Alternatively, I could undertake a Bachelor of Commerce and study economics, marketing, business management, etc. This doesn’t interest me that much but I really want to get some good qualifications so I can get a decent job and hopefully move to a European country on a skilled migrant visa. What sort of career opportunities would a Bachelor of Commerce provide for me? Could I go far with this qualification, or would I only be able to work in shitty low-level office jobs?
I’m also considering Law. I don’t want to be a lawyer – are there any other careers which a Bachelor of Law could qualify me for? What kinds of jobs, how much money could I earn, and how easy will it make finding a job in Europe?
Also; is it feasible to undertake my Bachelor of Arts, so as to get the enjoyable, satisfying, stimulating education aspect, and then, upon the completion of my Bachelor of Arts, study a Bachelor of Commerce? Or would I just be wasting my time? It would double my study time, but perhaps I could study the second degree at an overseas university, which would be fun.
