I don't get why people say the USMC is better than the Army. A lot of people say that they are "The, Few, The Proud, The Marines" when in fact they have over 200,000 active duty marines, larger than many significant military powers such as the British Army with over 100,000 active soldiers. You can name any country and most likely it will be larger than their whole ground forces.
I also don't get when they say they are the first ones in and the last ones out. If marines are not an occupation force then how can they be the last ones out? During the War in Afghanistan the first ones in were CIA SAD teams followed by U.S Army Special Forces. During the Iraq invasion, once again, the first ones in were CIA SAD teams, followed by U.S Army Special Forces. When people say they are the tip of the spear also confuses me since in the Invasion of Iraq, the Army's 3rd Infantry Division was most of the main axis of advance. Look at the statistics of any american war and you will find there were more Army solders then Marines.
I don't get it when people say the marines have history on their side. Yes the marines have faced tough enemies but so did the Army. The U.S Army (along with foreign help) were the ones that battled for our independence during the Revolutionary War. Both the Marines and the Army fought the Germans during World War I. Even though the Marines got the nickname Devil Dogs (Teufel Hunden) in the battle of Belleau Wood, there were no records of the Germans ever calling them that. During World War II the Marines fought in the pacific against the fierce Empire of Japan, but the Army fought in Europe against the Germans and in the Pacific against the same enemy as the Marines.
Many say that their boot camp is hard. A real man learns to suffer without complaining. Just because they have 4 weeks more of training makes it harder? So many people say the Marines are the best just because a commercial tells them so. If a commercial says it, then it must be true. If the Marines are as good as they claim to be then how come Special Forces doesn't recruit from them? how come the 1st Special Forces Detachment-Delta doesn't recruit from them? How come SOCOM doesn't have Marine Unites? How come JSOC doesn't have any units from them.
I mean no disrespect to any service member, I understand the cross-rivalry between the branches but I don't understand why people out of the military get involved.
This question is not towards actual marines, I have respect for them, its towards the people that blindly follow what they hear.
