I certainly don't want to get in an "application" spat with anyone regarding UM. If it works for people, terrific -- and I respect that.
But when an option says "Delete A68 files?" it gives no indication of WHAT it's getting rid of. You're relying on the app to delete as many as it sees fit, and "only ones that are old?"
If you've ever looked at an app that shows orphan files, not all of them are orphans. It's like Dudley Moore in "Arthur:"
"Not all of us drink because we're poets . . . some of us drink because we're NOT poets."
If Palm creates A68 files as necessary, terrific; however if you filter for A68 in TomCatalog, YOU CAN DECIDE what apps you've deleted that they're related to -- I just like the "control."
Furthermore, with regard to the LexSpell Dictionary, UM didn't fine two files totalling 330k that were related to the app. 330k! Slightly larger than a "0 byte A68 file," huh? I know opinions vary, and I'd rather people use UM and have a better chance to "getting rid of more;" I can see its merit in a lot of circumstances. You're a good man to stick up for it.
I have found that when finding an a68 and trying to delete it with TealMover, it won't delete. You HAVE TO do a soft reset. It escapes me, then, how UM does it with one click -- and again you don't know which ones it's removing. Ones you need would be "resurrected," but I like having the ability to say "Oh yeah, I remember that app I deleted . . . " and striking it. It's just like everything else that makes palm special -- it's a personal thing!
I will agree with you wholeheartedly, ryber, in that if you're going to use an app at all for uninstall, it would be Uninstall Manager. It is the best at what it does - and picky types like me could always "check on it" later and have less to check!!
