How to Repair fairing brackets that are broken on batwing. I went to Home Depot and got 2 L shaped brackets and bolted them to orig. bracket and to where orig bolts were behind dash. Worked great and not that had to do..

I did the exact same thing to mine....now, the plastic 'hub' of the inner fairing with the brass threaded insert which the bracket is bolted to broke off. I had to fabricate an 'L' bracket to attach to the plastic 'gusset' above the bracket attachment point (which is now gone). I'll see if I can upload a picture.

I too have a right Side break on the main Bracket and Speaker Bracket.... Going the L bracket fix. Harley should have had a recall on this..... Its more than clear there is a wide spread problem!

Yep, 2006 SG same problem with fairing brackets. Both sides now repaired with 'L' Brackets and bolts from the Hardware store. Hopefully this will hold for a long time!

I replaced the speaker brackets three years ago and the main vertical brackets two years ago.
WAPITA to do a temp repair on one side and a week later to go back in and replace the speaker brackets.
Then two weeks later the vertical ones started to act up, but the temp repairs lasted longer till I could buy the replacements.
A shop manual and a non riding weekend is the best time to do it not in the middle of the riding season or a road trip. Unless you have warranty of course.

The Shark Nose guys have an issue with a fairing bracket, but iirc it is much more noticeable and causes more of an issue too.

I have not read many good stories where guys over engineer a replacement bracket/brace as it stresses the fairing in other areas and that causes more expensive problems.
I am not saying it can not be done, just be careful on what you build or buy.
Be alert to new vibrations in your mirrors and batwing.

This is one example where extended warranty comes into play and is worthwhile for the moco/insurance company pays for the repairs.

I joined this illustrious group the other day. But after 5 years of riding my '05 Ultra I feel I got my moneys worth out of these brackets. Was riding around the Chicago area last week and heard what sounded like a rock bouncing off the Fairing, all seemed OK, so I continued to ride that day. On the way home I noticed the Speedo and Tach bouncing a bit more than usual so I pulled the Front Fairing to check it out, bang both Bracket have the Tab broken off at the bend. Did some research both here and online and found this repair kit,

http://bagger-parts.com/Harley_Fairing_Repair_Kit.html

Arrived in the mail after 3 days installed in about an hour seems more sturdy that the originals. well worth the $42 in cost and shipping. JP cycles wanted twice as much for an ISO bracket per side to repair.

Well worth checking out if you join the club.
