I am currently going through an unemployment appeal. I was terminated from my position after returning from two weeks leave due to my father's hospitalization. His leg was amputated and doctors found a block artery in his heart. My former supervisor knew of this, but did not seem to care (or believe me!) or bother to offer family medical leave. I returned to work to find a co-worker auditing my work/file work. The next day, I was terminated due to neglect of duty. I was previously warned for neglect of duty and since did my best to correct my work.
The same co-worker who conducted the "audit" of my work was the same co-worker I filed a complaint against 1 month prior to my termination for slander. I do not even know if my former supervisor brought this complaint to their attention? Now this co worker has taken over my former position. I have witnesses who are still employed there but are worried they might jeopardize their jobs by speaking up. I was unable to obtain any documentation once I was terminated. My former supervisor practically stood over my shoulder the whole time while I gathered my personal belongings.
I know I need documentation and witness testimony but I am unsure I will be able to obtain these. I do have check stubs showing I used my own leave as well as my father's medical records. I am worried I may not win. Some helpful advise would be appreciated. Please help!!
