Alright, now this happened to me years ago. I'm in Missouri and at the time I lived in a semi-rural setting. One night I am awaken by the most - *unnerving* animal cry. It was coming from a vacant lot across the street. The best I could describe it, it sounded like a cross between a large bird and a wildcat.
It either moved extremely fast or had a mate it was calling to, because one minute it's right across the street, then in only a matter of seconds, the cry was halfway down the block. My dog wanted out to investigate, but not knowing what was out there, no way. I heard it two nights in a row, I could not tell if the cry was coming from the trees or the ground.
I did some research on the Internet trying to find the source of the sound. No luck.
It wasn't a panther, I've heard they scream like women (and there are *suppose* to be panthers in Mo). I looked up all kinds of birds, wild animals, nothing matched.
I couldn't describe it except to say it sounded *ghostly*.
I'm not the kind of person to exaggerate things like this and NO I don't believe it was a ghost. It was an animal of some sort, I just don't know what kind. If anybody could help me, I'd appreciate it.
