Cosmology, along with quantum mechanics and general relativity, have shown that the god-hypothesis is unnecessary as a way to explain the existence of the universe. Even before cosmology had provided a sufficient alternative metaphysics, the god-idea was suspicious because of its anthropomorphism and its anthrocentrism. Everything science learns about nature tells us that the universe and its natural laws relate to humans without special dispensation, quite as if we were a clever species of animal, and not as if we were a special creation for whom different rules apply. God-belief would have us think otherwise, and that has kept mankind in dysfunctional modes of behavior for thousands of years.
