Underrated (animated) movies

In your opinion, what are some (animated) movies that you feel are underrated (movies that get less credit than they deserve) and why?

Don Bluth's Titan A.E.. Mind you, it wasn't a great movie, but it was certainly an ambitious effort. You have to give Don credit for trying to make an animated movie about something else other than a fairy tale or a bunch of talking animals. Unfortunately, Titan A.E. went virtually ignored by critics and viewers alike. It did so poorly at the box office that it eventually led to 20th Century Fox discontinuing it's animated movie department.

Long before the Nostalgia Critic did his top 11 nostalgic classics, I still thought that The Secret of NIMH was underapreciated. For Don Bluth's first independent project after leaving Disney, it was a solid piece of work. But, I guess it got overshadowed by his more successful and recognizable films like An American Tail, or Land Before time.

There are boatloads of movies like this for me. One that I can think of Fern Gulley. I haven't seen it in years, but from what I remember it was a great little movie. Same with Balto.

Secret of NIMH was Bluths magnum opus; I still think so, and it's too bad it does'nt get too much recognition outside of animation aficiandos.

Disney's The Great Mouse Detective and Dreamworks Flushed Away are both severely underappreciated

For Disney, I'd say the majority of pre-Renaissance movies from the 70's and 80's are underrated. I'm sure that most of them were a part of our childhoods, like The Great Mouse Detective, or The Black Cauldron. But, they're not the movies that come to most people's minds when they think of Disney.

Twice Upon a Time - I recall seeing only it a couple of times on Cartoon Network and that was it. I thought it was a pretty good movie especially since it was done in cut-out(I think...)

Flight of Dragons - Like Twice Upon a Time, this movie only aired a couple of times on CN. I thought this was a good Rankin/Bass movie.

Meet the Robinsons- I think it's pretty underrated. Sure it wasn't amazing, and it doesn't compare to the classics like the Great Mouse Detective and Aladdin, but I thought it was really cute and had it's moments. I also like the message this movie has. The ending also had my eyes watery.

The Fox and the Hound

The Sword and the Stone- Whenever someone talks about classic Disney movies, I've almost never heard this movie mentioned. Maybe because it lacks the same energy level as some of the other Disney films. I doesn't deserve to be ignored like it is.

All Dogs Go To Heaven- One of Don Bluth's few movies that is actually worth your time.

Disney's Teacher's Pet was a commercial mistake, but I thought it was a pretty good movie. The animation was very unique. Everyone else hated it, though. I think it had the smallest opening for an animated film other than maybe Delgo (another commercial blunder).

I agree....It's one of my favorite animated movies,I love all the songs (especially Sawyer's song,"Tell Me Lies"),and the movie's really funny, too (I believe the director of this film went on to direct "The Emperor's New Groove",another great film)...

I'd say Nelvana's first film effort, Rock and Rule (1983). While the story has some flaws, the animation, music and atmosphere are great. I find it really entertaining to watch, and it's got some really good voices in it (Susan Roman as the heroine, Don Francks as the villain, Catherine O'Hara, even Maurice Lamarche in a cameo part).

I understand it's dated and definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but it hardly ever gets mentioned anywhere.

I forgot to mention Sword of the Stranger. Literally no one has seen it (doesn't even have a page on Rotten Tomatoes) and given that it's an extremely accessible and fun movie that's something of a crime IMO. RENT/BUY THE DVD AND DISCOVER HOW AWESOME IT IS!

Oh, I forgot Fox & the Hound. One of my favorite Disney movies.... definitley deserves more attention.

And I'm gonna copy everybody to add another vote for "Cat's Don't Dance".

I think "The Thief and the Cobbler" is nearly a given. I'm not talking about the version that Miramax released, of course. But still, it's such a shame to see 25 dedicated years of Richard Williams' work get shot to Hell just because he didn't finish by his given deadline.Little Nemo in Slumberland is another one I've gotta mention. Even without the Studio Ghibli team working on this movie like they had originally planned, I thought it did a great job at capturing the dream world.
