As many laws state male and female such as marriage, age of consent, pensionable age etc. how is this defined under a court of law? If by genitalia what is a hermaphrodite defined as? If by chromosome i.e. XX vs XY then what is XXY (Klinefelter Syndrome) defined as? Or is it just historical precedent i.e. what is marked on the birth certificate?
