Under Sharia's law.........?

Under Shari'a - Islamic law - a man can marry up to four wives. He can divorce his wife or wives by saying “I divorce you” three times. For a wife to obtain a divorce is usually very difficult. Muslim apologists claim that Muslim women have the right to divorce and that in Islam the mother is revered and respected. Upon divorce, fathers win custody of boys over the age of six and girls on the onset of puberty. Many women would be reluctant to divorce violent or polygynous husbands for fear of losing their children. Despite the exaltation of motherhood - Mohammed once told a follower that paradise is found at the feet of the mother - children are considered the property of the father with the mother being merely the caretaker. How is it possible for a Muslim man to respect his mother when immutable religious law proclaims women's inferiority and inadequacy?

sharia law should be abolished! It doesn't belong in our world today! I find it hard to believe that most muslims actually agree with this kind of thing! I don't see why they are allowed to have laws like that.
 
Too true. You should hear some of the reasons Muslims use to explain the fact that women cannot divorce their husbands by saying "I divorce you" like the men can. They usually claim that women cannot make sound judgments because they become irrational during their menstrual cycle (OMG!).

They use the same reasoning to prevent women from taking certain jobs (judicial jobs are prohibited to women in traditional shariah law). Also, children MUST follow the religion of the man not the woman. That is why Muslim men are allowed to marry non-Muslim women (from "people of the book"), but Muslim women can only marry Muslim men. It is obviously a religion written by a man for other men.
 
I agree with your comment.. Islamic laws make absolutely no sense.. I guess that's why men see women as being lower than them.. The world is so messed up right now, I don't know where to begin..
 
I think it's one way they found to deal with the problems of custody in a problem time. In the area when Sharia was conceived at the time, women were in constant danger if not protected. They had no ability to protect children.

By default in US law, and some UK law, custody goes to the mother until a custody agreement is reached. If within society a woman were unable to adequately protect children or provide for them, custody would go to the father. It's much the same way, and it was made at a time when women were not in a position by and large to provide protection or food on their own.

Edit: that is not to say that I am Muslim or agree with what they believe.
