Uncomfortable palate sensation

I recently ate a lot of garlic, and when I do that after long periods of not eating it, I get cold like symptoms, like mucus buildup, which, I think, is because garlic overstimulates my immune system. This time, however, besides some mucus buildup (which stopped) I have this uncomfortable sensation in the palate of my mouth, and when I try to suck on it, it hurts and feels like it bends. The garlic inference is the only causal relationship I see. It's probably going to go away soon, but I'd like to understand why this sensation is present (gain medical knowledge).
