Alright I know someone has probably had a problem similar to this so I need your help if you know how I might be able to fix this.
I lost my license a few years ago and I have been riding a bicycle ever since. I lost it for not having insurance so my license were/is suspended. To get them back I had to wait a year, pay a $225reinstatement fee and have proof of insurance (a SR-50) when I get them back. So I finally decided to get them back and this is what happens:
I get my insurance and that's fine. I go to the BMV and have all my paperwork ready to get my stuff back. And then the lady tells me it's going to now cost me $875 plus a defensive driving course to get my license again. I asked why and it's because I had 2 more cases of "being uninsured and driving." I tell the lady it's not possible because I had not driven (which is the truth) she then showed me 2 electronic copies tickets that I had gotten ON A BICYCLE. Apparently on both tickets the cops made the classification of the vehicle as an automobile and not bike. The ticket VERY CLEARLY shows that there is no information about a vehicle, not a VIN number, plate number, make, model, car year etc. on either of the tickets. I know that the original (the handwritten) tickets "vehicle" description was described as a bicycle. Even with that the lady said I had to get the classification code changed because when it shows up as vehicle classification it seems as though I was driving uninsured again, even though I was on a bicycle.
I would like to know how I can get this changed so that I can obtain my license again.
I live in Indiana. One of the locations of the locations of the ticket was in Indianapolis (Marion County) and the other in Bloomington (Monroe County.
Thanks I do appreciate any help but I am already aware it was a mistake. I'm more so looking for this processes on fixing it. I think I could do it with out a lawyer I just need to know where to atleast start my complaint.
