Un-sharp HD footage from Canon 5D2?

Why does my HD footage from Canon 5 D 2 look unsharp?
I`ve changed the Picture settings as recommended, in Camera so that Contrast, Sharpness and Saturation are all reduced. 0 , -4 & -2 respectively.
I`ve converted the files into Pro Res 422 in FCP.
I`m using a tripod. Shutter speed 1/50 using ND Grad.
Stills are 5616 x 3744, HD video 1920 x 1080, so I`m aware that video is of a smaller resolution than stills.
Even when I`ve outputted the files as quicktime pro res 422 they still look the same.
Am I missing something?

Trying to manually focus your lens using the LCD can produce soft imagery

You really need to add an auxiliary view finder like the Z-finder
