Ultimate Guide to UPNP connectivity/WLAN connection (securely)
Ok I?ve managed to control media using UPNP and connect using my wireless connection at home. A lot of people have been saying to leave their routers open, but this poses lots of security risks.
Although things will vary by brand, a lot of things are the same so you could use this as a reference! I will be using a Linksys WRT54GS router and a WMP54GS wireless card on the PC.
1)First setting up the router for a SECURE EASY SETUP (SES)
Most of linksys products are SES enabled so you can configure a secure connection with a press of a button. If the linksys products are SES they will all connect securely to each other without much hassle.
1a) Configuring an SES Linksys Router with an SES Linksys Adapter wireless adaptor: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...p?p_faqid=2676
After you secured all the SES device (that if you have them) you can go setting up the non-SES devices with the SES router
1b) Configuring an SES Router with a Non-SES/Built-in Adapter: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...p?p_faqid=2677
1c)By now all of you pc?s and laptops in your network are secured!
1d) If you don't have a linksys router/or SES follow necesary steps to use WPA/WPA2 to secure your connection, it also better than WEP.
2)Preparing for UPNP
2.1"Setting up the Router
1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape).
2. After the browser opens input the router?s IP address into the "Address" Bar (The default IP address is http://192.168.1.1) and click Go or click the [Enter] key.
3. A "User Name" and "Password" prompt will appear, leave the "User Name" blank and input the routers password (the default password is admin) and click OK.
4. After entering the routers password, the "Setup" page should appear, if there is Password tab, please click on it. If not click on the Administration tab.
5. When the page loads, make sure that "UPnP" is Enabled, if it is not, click on Enabled, then click Apply or Save Settings.
2.2Setting up Windows XP
1. Click on the Start button, then click on the Run option and input control into the "Open" field, then click on the OK button.
2. After the "Control Panel" load?s, click on Add or Remove Programs.
3. When the "Add or Remove Programs" window opens, click on Add/Remove Windows Components
4. The "windows Components Wizard" window should open, scroll down the list and click on Networking Services, then click on the Details... button.
5. When the "Networking Services" window opens, check the option for Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client, then check the option for Universal Plug and Play.
6. Click OK, then Next, and when the wizard finishes, click Finish."
2.3 Setting up Nokia Media server
1) Download it: http://www.simplecenter.com/hms_34/
and install it. Follow the setup.
2)Go to setting and under ?Media? select ?enable media server?
3)You could enable it to start at startup but it will decrease performance, you can also change the server name.
4)Under Firewall it tells you to leave certain ports open, I found that I didn?t have to do anything, cause it worked without opening any ports (for me) and press ok.
5)Every time you want to let files on your pc to be accessed by phone the Media server program must be running in background. As an alternative you could use the Windows Media Connect 2: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...t/default.aspx
3)Before connecting the N80/93
1)Browse to http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser and enter your password/username to acces the router settings.
2)Although it will vary by brand, for linksys routers: Go to ?wireless? and select ?wireless security? and write down the WPA Shared Key and keep this by your side when going to the next step, very important!!

9)WLAN security mode should be set for ?WPA/WPA2? for extra security. (For this to work in your routers settings the connection between the router and pc?s should be WPA or WPA2 for increased security)
10)Go into ?WLAN security sett.?
11)Under WPA mode select: pre-shared key , go back
12) Under pre-shared key input the WPA SHARE KEY you wrote down from the router setup. It is very important that you don?t make a mistake here, a wrong key will not get acces/
13)Under TKIP encryption choose ?allowed?
14)Choose back

19)Go to ?Share content? and for Images and video and Music choose ?all files?
20)Go back and go into settings and under Content sharing select ?ON?
This here I found enables or disables both UPNP and WLAN internet.
21)Open browser and try to surf. I found at the first try?.it will just go to search for WLAN. But close the browser and wait a while. After that you will be able to choose your home network to surf.
22)For UPNP go to galleries and scroll to home net work and it will search for the devices, make sure Nokia media servers running
And enjoy!
