I have had an ulcer in my esophagus for over 6 months. I have been on medcation from my doctor but its not going away yet. Anyway, maybe on about 3 or 4 occasions after a night of heavy drinking, I had black stool for the following day, and then the next day it would return to a normal color. I know this could be malena from internal bleeding. I mentioned it to my doctor but he didnt really say much about it. Since the color has returned to normal, does this mean the internal bleeding has stopped on hits own? Aside from drinking less, is there anything I should do or worry about because of this?

Also, I did notice that I have been experiencing fatigue more than usual since the last time it happened which could mean iron deficiency anemia, but im not sure about it. How much blood would I have to lose for that to be the case?

Drink less is the obvious step, until it is healed.

Also, taking vitamin c, zinc and a multivitamin can speed the healing process - you could get a 3 month supply of all three of these for about 10 bucks at Walmart (the store branRAB are just as good), so it might be worth a try - one of each daily with food

If you are losing a little blod every day, but not enough to make your stools black, you could have developed anaemia - ask your doctor for a blood test.

And STOP DRINKING for a couple of months!

The black stools can be caused by blood from the ulcer. Black tarry stools are signs "old blood."Your fatigue may be caused by anemia since you are losing blood and iron from the bleeding ulcer.

Drinking alcohol with your condition, in any amount, is a bad, bad idea. You are not giving your gut a chance to heal. The medicine unfortunately is allowing you to hang on to behaviors that are ultimately harmful to your health. You may consume alcohol because the medicine helps you feel a bit better for a couple of days and you feel it is then OK to drink alcohol. Your gut then becomes irritated, the ulcer bleeRAB, you feel awful, not drink for a few days, but then drink again when you feel a little better again. If your ulcer is bleeding, it may be a sign of an impending perforated ulcer. Not sure what else to recommend aside from not consuming alcohol, taking supplements, following a healthy diet and consulting with your doctor about your symptoms.

Best wishes
