uk, what is the point of having a tv licence?

i know its so you can have a tv, but whats the point, paying like a tenner a month, its not like a driving licence, you dont learn to watch a tv so whats the point? lol
 
It is because the BBC channels do not have adverts, so in order to fund their programs they require you to have a licence. So basically for the privilege of no adverts, we pay the licence.
 
Because commercial TV is getting worse and worse.

You won't always be 16. Someday you'll want to watch intelligent programmes.
