In a Sony gamescom press conference packed with surprise announcements, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillermot took the stage and announce a Watch Dogs feature film. What even, right? It makes a bit more sense when you hear that Ubisoft's film and television division, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, is partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment to develop the feature film.
Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures gave the following statement:
Also, it just makes sense. Watch Dogs is a very human story that deals with modern day issues of technology and surveillance. Put Tom Cruise in the starring role and make any dumb American director head of the project, sell advertising to Samsung so Aiden uses a Galaxy, make everything explode. Hell, I think I just made a million dollars writing that sentence.

"Since both Sony and Ubisoft have movie and video game branches, this deal creates exceptional opportunities for us to merge the realms of the story-based cinematic experience with the interaction of the video game. In addition, Sony Pictures and New Regency have deep production expertise and are letting us maintain a strong creative voice in the film’s development. Together, we’re confident we can deliver a movie that builds upon the excitement that the game is already generating."
No details regarding the movie have yet to be announced. Heck, it probably won't even be greenlit unless the game is a huge success. However, Ubisoft probably has the preorder numbers to prove otherwise, and Sony makes movies on top of video games, so the partnership obviously works out perfectly.
