u-Verse & netgear router?

hey guys

First, an overview of our system:

Att U-verse modem/wireless router, three u-verse tv recievers, all connected by wired lan to the router.

Just bought a netgear wnr2000 router yesterday, and added it to our at&t U-verse network. I converted it into an access point (disabled DHCP, assigned IP address 1 below dhcp range of U-verse router, connected ethernet to lan ports instead of wan).

What I did was used an original cable in place for one of the tv recievers, and connected it to the netgear router (AP). I then connected the tv reciever to the router. both are connected to LAN ports on the AP. So the setup looks like this:

TV reciever---->Netgear AP-------->u-verse router/modem.

I did this because the wireless signal was very low on the other side of the house. i figured adding an access point to our side would improve our wireless signal. This is all so that the two people on our side of the house can play on xbox live.

The majority of the system works well, and I am happy with it. all of the computers connecting to the new AP can access the u-verse router, and vice versa. the connection speed is amazing for us now, and all 3 tv's still work properly.

There is, however, one concern: When the tv connected to the AP is turned on, our side of the house gets a very slow connection, sometimes no connection at all. I am wondering, does the tv reciever take up so much bandwidth that it completely rules out all of the AP's wireless? maybe streaming the tv signal takes up too many resources??

how can i solve this problem? do I need to go into the new AP and prioritize the mac addresses of our computers over the tv? or do i need to set a limit on the tv's incoming signal? am i missing something?

thanks alot guys!
