Dolls Have Feelings Too!

Guest
I know most car models, usually specific to year, have common faults, flaws, and issues.
I may be taking ownership of a 94 Taurus.
Are there any common issues I should be aware of or look out for?
Thanks!!

The Taurus is usually a great buy. Don't buy it if it has the 3.8 liter engine, only the 3.0 liter engine. The transmissions are great if you have them serviced according to the maintenance schedule and actually use the CORRECT fluid. Read the owner's manual for the right specification fluid. If anyone tells you that there is a universal trans fluid, they are misinformed. The container in which the fluid comes should clearly state that it meets ford spec so-and-so. It is up to you to know what that spec is. If you buy this car be aware that the water pump and drive axles typically go out at around 100,000. Same is true of the alternator and voltage regulator. Also, the tie rod ends. Keep records. In general, this is a fine, safe, and reliable car that will give years of service. Have someone clean out your throttle body, PCV valve, and idle air control valve to get best overall performance and gas mileage. Install NGK iridium plugs. Have the underside of the car inspected for any signs of rust's beginnings, and have it sprayed with corrosive resistant paint or protectant. Good Luck!!!

A vehicle that old you could expect anything. The 3.0 L V6 (push rod engine) is pretty reliable engine The vacuum hose have deteriorated. Should have them all inspected. If the steering parts are original, then expect replacement. Radiator & heater core may give you grief (if original) A/C tends to fail. If it's broken could cost up to a grand to repair. Before you say OK to the deal take the vehicle to an AAA rated shop for a thorough inspection. They will issue you a full print out on the vehicle's condition.

Taurus's are notorious for Transmissions going out. If the car is free drive it but be saving up for another car. What ever you do don't buy it.
