Types of hair extensions?

So I've been doing a lot of research on hair extensions. I am planning to dye them, so I know I need to get the real human hair ones. I did however have a few questions on them:

My hair isn't naturally thin, but I do thin it out, so it's pretty thin right now. Can you thin out hair extensions themselves? If not, is there a way to get hair extensions that do not make your hair really poofy and volumized?

Also I'm not sure the type I should get. I've read about tie ins, sew ins, clip ins, and glue ins, but which should I be siding to? Currently my hair is a few inches above my shoulders. Also if I get them in won't it look weird since my hair will be two different lengths on top and bottom? How does this work..? On top of this I don't have a lot a lot of money to spend on them, but I don't want to get ones that at least look real, so I look good/don't waste my money. Also do tie ins/glued in/clip ins fall out easily?

So along with this: Any ideas of where I should buy them, and how they're applied? I saw some at the Sallys store but wasn't sure how good those were, and how they are put into your hair.

So yeah sorry for so many questions, but any info is appreciated!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
