other moderately aggressive african cichlids (which ones i'll leave up to you and your theme for the tank)
various armored synodontis catfish (upside down catfish are a favorite of mine)
sometimes A. cichlids can get along with bichirs, just make sure niether is large enough to be mistaken for a snack
