Twiddling TV Animation Venues

Since the beginning of the 21s century, animation venues are drying up.

It's honestly starting to get frustrating for me. The more stable venues we loose, the harder time we're gonna have to see quality animation make it to the US Market, weather it be US created series or dubed series.

Here's a RIP list off the top of my head:

  • USA ended their animation blocks.
  • TBS ended their animation blocks.
  • NBC ended all animation on their channels.
  • FoxKids ended their Weekday block.
  • KidsWB ended their weekday block.
  • Family Channel ended their animation blocks.
  • BKN ended syndication in the US.
  • Fox ended their weekend block selling the slots off to 4kids.
  • Toonami ended after 11 years.
  • Spike's Animation block attempts never took root.
  • KidsWB ended their weekend block selling the slots off to 4Kids.
  • Jetix ended.
  • Toon Disney changed to DX elimination many cartoon blocks.
  • Fox 4Kids ended. No Saturday morning cartoons on Fox anymore.
  • Cartoon Network is limiting their animation blocks in lieu of live action programing.
The laundry list is likely bigger then what I could list off the top of my head. The CW for Kids and ABC Disney is literally the last bastions for non-cable Saturday morning cartoons. It's a sorry state.

I don't know about anyone else but I am honestly becoming frustrated with the direction of animation in the US. At this rate, we might be lucky if we have any channels that can act as a venue for new animation by the end of next year.

Is animation viewership really at the stage where it's being forced under ground so drastically?

At this rate, it feels like our only venue for animation by 2011 is going to be Crunchyroll, Hulu and Youtube.
