Turtle shells keep peeling. Is it from the sucker fish?

I had 4 turtles and one died from this. Im not sure if its from the sucker fish sucking on the shells. It turns whitish and eventually gets deep in the shells. I have a red eared slider who never has any problems but its my black turtles that i believe are snapping turtles that keep getting it. Is the sucker fish doing this
