Turning a 1980 Chevy into a powerful AND fuel efficient truck?

Ok, here is your chance to show off your knowledge of old trucks. I have a 1980 Chevy Scottsdale with a V8 350 engine. It's got great power for heavy loads. I'm guessing maybe around 11-13mpg on the fuel. What would be the best combination of parts to put in to keep the hauling power but also give it good gas mileage? I know it will never but 30mpg but I'm thinking more along the lines of 18-20mpg. List the parts you recommend and what you would do.
Yea, I forgot to mention the tires. When I bought the truck, the guy had 235/75R15 on it. They are still on. So I guess tires would be added as parts to get...lol
