I am considering buying a new, Mazda3 Grand Touring 08, 4 Cylinder, 2.3 Liter Engine. With black leather interior, traction control, and anti-lock-breaking systems. The price is somewhere from 19,000 (I hope) to 23,000. We haven't finished negotiating with the dealer yet.
I was considering the RX-8, or the Mazda Miata, but I am on a budget, and this will be my first car, I am 19. I love driving cars with excellent turning, I'm not so much a brute power fan. However, after driving the RX-8 and the Miata, I notice that the Mazda 3 has relatively good handling and control, but it is a "smoother" ride, more of a cruising car then a fast accelerating, high speed cornering car, like the Miata.
My question is simple. Is it reasonably possible to spend a few thousand dollars extra, and get this grand touring Mazda3s engine turbo charged? And if I CAN reasonably cheaply increase the speed, will the overall acceleration be too much for its shocks to handle? Would I have to then buy a whole new suspension system to hand the speed? I would hate to roll a new car by going to fast on a corner.... (not that I plan on going "too" fast, I just don't like having to slow down a ton, I'd rather have epic suspension and traction lol)
So ya, to sum up, can I, or can I not buy a good Mazda3 Grand Touring, and then later down the road pump up its engines accel and suspension/turning ability, without screwing up the whole car, and ending up wasting my money lol. Basically I want to take a "normal" day to day, "get to work" car. And turn it into the equivalence of a miata like "sports" car. Without paying for an ACTUAL sports car and the insurance that goes with them. Thank you greatly for any help you can give me.
