Tungsten T3 Cases...

No I haven?t, but its almost the same as the Rhino-Skins but upside down.

What it seems to be neat is that you can recharge it while on the case. With the Rhino-Skin you cant, at least not with the normal cradle.
Downside if you have it hooked on your belt and its a bit open it might fall of from the bottom. That might be a bit scary. If you can get a picture of how it really hooks on you can better gauge how secure it is in the case.

That is the one I bought and have not looked back since. It fits, it holds the T3 well, you can use it open or closed, and open you can put it on the cradle as is, and even hotsync in the case. It has only one drawback, and that certainly is not a major one. It only holds one extra memory card. I only carry one with me. I leave the other in a different place for obvious security reasons, and even if the T3 gets lost, stolen or destroyed I still have a complete back-up in the safe at home to restore from. By the way I also copy and paste my ?Launcher? file to the backup card, and thus I am totally set in case of a disaster. Hope this helps. I am totally satisfied with the case and wouldn?t trade for anything. The Palm one I got free with the T3 stinks totally. But, you look for yourself if necessary.

There are several backup programs. I use BackUpBuddy(BUB) and BUB-VFS. VFS is for the card, BUB is for the palm to desktop. Since a lot of my programs are on Flash (JackFlash) full backup to a card takes only a minute (+-). It has saved my butt many times. In case of a hard crash and loss of everything, I merely do a reset, add in BUB-VFS and do a complete restore. It takes maybe a minute and a half and I am back at the point of my last backup to card, totally. Hope that helps. BUB& BUB-VFS are from bluenomad software. I use 2 simultaneously; BackupMan and BBVFS. both are equally reliable, but BBVFS is much quicker. Further, I also use 2 SD cards. One is always in the slot where I backup data several times a day. The 2nd card I keep in my pocket and backup every night. You only need 1 card as long as you ALWAYS remove it after each backup. That way if you lose your PDA, then you'll still have your card. You buy a new PDA, stick in your SD card and RESTORE. I just don't want to constantly have to always remove the card after a backup...so the 2nd card allows me to always keep the card in the slot.
 
I have two (extra) cards. One is a full backup and every time I back up I copy the Palm/Launcher file from the active card to this backup. That way even if the card and the T3 are lost/stolen/ destroyed, I have a drop in card totally ready to restore everything. It is kept at home and/or in the safe. The backup card I carry with me is just that a backup using BUB-VFS, in the event of loss of data, I can do an instant restore. The backup is a 64mb and the other two interchangeable ones are 128s. It is overkill, but for the cost of an extra card, I have total recall in case of a catastrophe.

Difference is I have a total of three cards. One in the slot (128) which I backup frequently. Another 64 in the hard case the T3 is in which I backup almost the same as the one in the T3. I have a third card (128) at home which I not only back up to, but also delete and copy (Palm/Launcher file from the primary 128 in the T3.) at least daily. In other words, it is an exact copy of the 128 in my T3, and thus interchangeable. Plus it is nowhere near the T3 just in case of a total disaster such as loss, theft, or destruction. Does that make sense? Sorry for any confusion, it made sense to me, but then again, that is your reason.

OK, so I'm dense...lol...Is your reference to..."Palm/Launcher file from the primary 128 in the T3" significant? Or are just saying you backup to 3 cards instead of 2. Also you said you have a card in the PDA and another card in the case, but if you lose your PDA and it's in the case then you lose your 1st and 2nd backup cards, right?
 
Yes, that?s why I have the other one at home. The reason I copy the launcher is that I now have a complete backup of the original 128 from the T3. The launcher is a copy of all the programs that are stored on the card (with only shortcuts on the T3). I often add or remove programs so the launcher file on the card changes with each add or subtract. Restore only restores what files were on the T3 at the time of the last backup. It does not restore what was already on the card, and what is in Flash. Of I lose the card and or backup card (64), I still have a total replacement.

In other words, on card A (128mb are a complete backup of the T3, and all the programs (163) resident on the card with only shortcuts on the T3. On card B (64mb) is only a complete backup of the T3. On card C (128mb) is a complete backup of the T3 AND a complete copy (Launcher file) of all the programs resident on the card normally in the T3. I can lose (or whatever) the T3, the backup card in the case, and still be in business. If the T3 goes out, I have the backup card. If it is lost or stolen or destroyed, I still have Card C to both restore and have the programs. If the T3 is destroyed or lost, All the programs in Flash will be lost except for the ROM backup on the A and C cards. I think I am protected for almost any contingency.
 
OK, then the only risk you would have is if you lost your
PDA and all 3 SD cards!!..not likely, huh? But, the final backup would be to copy the backed up SD card to your PC via a card reader, then copy it to a micro thumb drive or a CD. (I like the thumb so that I can carry it with me when I travel. Thanks for your replys.
 
Actually, the one on my PC is called a HotSync, but I do have a card reader and just never felt the need for that last step.

About 6 years ago when I was traveling on business my lllc did a spontaneous hard reset. Then when I hotsynced to hopefully restore my PDA, whatever was wrong that caused a hard reset also corrupted my Palm folders in my User folder....i lost everything. Of course that was in the days before SD card backups. I never forgot that agony. That's the reason I want the security of an external backup (ie thumb drive).. just in case EVERYTHING crashes!! Anyway............
 
Today my new hard case arrived - the URL for the case is

and not only is it *very* nice looking, I fill like I could probably jump up and down on it without hurting it. It's aircraft aluminum with neopreme rubber (or some such) cushioning the case. The matte finish is very attractive and complements the T3 nicely.

It cost $29, and the delivery was a day faster than I expected - very much recommended.

The only oddities are that (a) the extra SD card sits in the door nicely, but you see its back, not its front, and (b) you can charge the T3 in the and it will sit in the charger stand, but it can wiggle just a little loose and fail to charge in that position (the angle changes due to the case).

But as I said - this is a great case and I no longer worry about carrying the T3 in my pocket.

Kudos to wghandorf & drbaer for once again bringing it to everyone's attention about the importance of SD Card backup.

I had the same nightmare as wghandorf and MUCH prefer SD Card restore to HotSync.

Like drbaer, hard reset restore is about a minute thanks to JackFlash and jkware's "CardBackup." Debates rage over BBVFS (Backup Buddy VFS) and CardBackup - I prefer the latter but PICK SOMETHING and use it!

I also have two spares, at home - and backup twice a day to a 256 Panasonic. The "Launcher file" thing interests me . . . I used to think that had to be carried over (and perhaps it does as drbaer points out) - but I remember it getting to 6200 bytes and one day I just deleted it for the hell of it to see what happened.

Nothing. It is currently 462 bytes; I think it tends to get filled up with a lot of "long gone information" that is N/A but it's very interesting that drbaer actually transfers the "working" model to spare cards.

I'll have to play with that sometime when I have more time - it might be VERY beneficial.
