Tungsten T with Socket BT GPS

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help, please? My Tungsten will search for, and find, the Socket as a 'New Device'. It then tells me it's connecting via a Serial Port; then about 15 seconds later it tells me that it's searching for new B/T devices, and goes through the same routine. It just never links. What am I doing wrong. Answers in words of one syllable, please, as I am at the bottom of the heap where 'computerese' is concerned!

BT usually requires "pairing" with a 4 digit ID number. During the process of identification - you should have to enter in a 4 digit number.....if that is not occurring then I'd suggest the driver is bad and either needs to be deleted and or reinstalled.

Also if you haven't tried a soft reset - then I'd suggest that as well.
 
Thanks Moose Man, but I DID tell you I am a bit dim on the 'techie' front! How would I delete and/or reload the driver you mention? When I first got the two units 'talking' I entered an identity code 0183. Since then it has not been asked for. I know it's all simple when you know how....! And I don't like to have to ask for more details but I really would appreciate some more help if you can spare the time. Many thanks, Moonglow.
 
Where did the 0183 pairing # come from? Assigned by Socket or assigned by you.....normally the manufacturer will assign the pairing number and you have to find that in the documentation.

Post more details about the specific error messages your are getting and I mean specific....exact language.

Are you certain the BT Socket is actually on....some of those will turn off after a certain amount of time. I don't have one so this will be a little tougher to get through and you may have to call Socket to get the specific help you need with that device but we'll try some more.
 
The 0183 was assigned by Socket. OK, here goes again...Socket switched on; Palm T switched on; launch Mapsonic; "Searching for Bluetooth devices"; "Found 1 Bluetooth Device"; "Discovery Results - select a device": (Device =) "CSR - bc2 A5A5" followed by a 'key' symbol.
Next:- Tap OK; gives "Bluetooth Serial Port - connecting...."
this last screen only shows for about 3 seconds, then....nothing except the blank 'Maps' screen for 20 seconds, then up comes again.
There are no error messages.
"...." are actual screen messages. is just to avoid confusion of repetition (hopefully!)
What are 'hard' and 'soft' resets and how do I do them? I did have to press the 'Reset' button once when the Palm crashed but I don't think it was connected with the Mapsonic or Socket problems; I can't remember the exact circumstances now.
Many thanks for your kindness. I have tried the Palm and Socket so-called 'Support' systems but it's like trying to get blood out of a stone.
 
Here is a link that states the device you have is not compatible with a Tungsten T.

This tells me that someone may have incorrectly recommended the device to you. Socket apparently doesn't support the Tungsten T in any fashion based upon my quick search at the above site.....


The process outlined - it's not communicating via the software with the BT module. It recognizes the device but the software won't recognize that the device is "enabled". This is a driver issue and not something your going to fix unless Socket deems it.

Reading more on their pages - they do sell just a GPS receiver that is supposed to be compatible but it appears that you'd have to use someother software with the device.

Time to send it back?
 
Thanks Moose Man, for passing message on, but my first incentive to buy Emtac came from a very enthusiastic report of this pairing on www.FovPop.co.uk but sadly the site has now closed due to the ill-health of its proprietors, so I can't get to ask the author of the article for any help.
The unit I have is the receiver only, not the Gps Nav package.
Any further suggestions, please?
 
Well, it may be that the device is pairing but the software won't work based upon my reading of the "package".

You might try to download Mapoplolis or some other software that might recognize the signal coming from the Socket but that's a WAG at this time.

I noticed that the device is supposed to be compatible as you stated but it doesn't appear to be functional with their software.....with BT, you'll have to have a driver that will work with the software and now your goofed since that sight you stated is dead.

Mapopolis is supposed to work with just about any GPS unit although they do sell it bundled but if it were me - at this time - I'd send it back and get something bundled that should work.

Too far away to help much more - sorry.
 
I wished I could have been more help....I never tried a GPS device on my Tungsten T and now that it's gone - no help here. I'm not quite as frustrated as you, I'm sure, but never the less frustrated.

I'm usually helpful on such matters before giving up......the only remaining suggestion would be to deal with Socket's Tech support some more and see where that leads. I usually found that asking for a supervisor between normal business hours gets the best tech....for what that's worth.

The other issue appears to be that Socket really is a EU based company and not much help across the pond....
