all i remember is that it was the story of a young girl. she married a man who was a doctor in a foreign country, and after they married he left. then she went to meet him. she had to take a boat. she was in this village. they flattened baby foreheads? and then she moved on to the next village and they had smallpox. it was a "battle of the books" book when i was in fifth grade, i am now in 12th grade.
