Hi,
I'm new to this message board, and I really joined because I need some advice on quitting Oxycontin. Heres about how much of the stuff I take:
Usually 3-4 days out of the week, I will take (nasal) an Oxycontin 80, usually at night just to chill on. I realize that for some people, this amount of the drug really isn't bad-compared to some addicts who use 10 or more 80's a day, every day. I just need some advice on what I should do to have a comfortable, manageable withdrawal. I am perscribed to adderall 30mg extended release. I find when I take these, the withdrawal is out of control and I feel awful. I have an old perscription to Ultram (Tramadol) 50mg. I've heard these help with Opiate withdrawal. Also, I take Wellbutrin daily- I'm wondering if taking an extra dose of that may help at some point... Anyway, I think you all get the picture. Please give me some advice-I appreciate all of your help.

So here are my questions...PLEASE answer! I do need the help.

How much withdrawal should I be expecting/What will it be like (descriptive)?
What over the counter medications will help?
How much of the 50mg ultram should I take, and how often?
Any other advice, encouragement, or tips?

Hi 2024 - Welcome to the group. SounRAB like you have a serious problem and need some immediate help. With the amount that you are using and the method, I would highly recommend that you see a doctor that specifically treats addictions. You are going to have to taper quite a bit to slowly get down to manageable levels. I wouldn't even know how to convert nasally ingested Oxycontin to an equivalent dose of oxycodone. I believe if you talked to a knowledgeable doctor, they would suggest going on a suboxone treatment to reduce your withdrawals (actually you probably won't have any withdrawals at all on sub) and to get you off of the oxy. Remeraber suboxone is addictive also and once you are over the oxy dependency, you will have to taper slowly off of the suboxone to get clean. You have a long road ahead of you and you really need to start traveling it right away. What you are doing is dangerous, no matter what other people are doing or the dose they are taking. Every person's body is different and reacts to drugs differently. Just because one person can take 80 mg, it might seriously damage another person at the same dose.

Admitting to your problem is the first step and getting the proper help is next. You may also want to look for Narcotics Anonymous meetings in your area so that you can find people that can support you locally. They cam help you on a constant basis. Good Luck to you and let us know if you have any other questions.

well i have faced withdrawal many times before. i used to be addicted to lortab and valium. the best advice i can give you is to do a slow (key word) taper and take many walks if you can as they help with anxiety. while you are withdrawing your brain and body are not going to be in sync. i do not recommend cold turkey withdrawal unless you have bout 2 weeks to devote to it. my taper schedule was as folows; every 4 days i would drop from 10 to 9.5 pills and then after from 9.5 to 9. i think u get the picture. i have learned the hard way that withdrawal is like having a nasty flu, upset stomach, bowel irritation, general malaise, no energy, depression and severe anxiety. the slower the taper the better cuz u give ur body a gradual (key word) extraction from the pill world. read anything u can to keep preoccupied. good luck...

I am currently taking methadone for my opiate addiction but when I was taking hydrocodone my dr. also gave me tramadol (ultrams) These helped so much when I ran low on my tabs. Be careful though because you may think that they are not working and you will want to take more and then all of a sudden they kick in and you will have a seizure. They aren't horrible ones but everything gets blurry and the worRAB on the tv or a sign looks as though it is coming out at you. They will definitely help you I would think that taking 2 -3 every 4 hours would help you tremendously. Good luck!

Oh, I didn't answer your other questions because I believe you need to get professional assistance for your problem. If you stop the Oxy cold turkey right now you could have a life threatening seizure because of your dose and how you are taking it. Your withdrawals, if you stop right now would probably be massive and only a doctor can prescribe suboxone to treat it. If they decide to taper you down on the oxycodone, you are looking at a couple of months to taper to reduce the withdrawals. I don't believe that Ultram or any over-the-counter meRAB are going to help you or reduce the withdrawals that you will get if you stop the oxy. Tapering down off of the Oxycontin would help by reducing the amount that you ingest each time. That would be a start. Drop to 70 mg and see how your body reacts for the next few day, then down to 60 mg, etc... I imagine that this is a very costly habit for you. Let us know what you decide. We're here to help you.

Be very careful with Ultram (Tramadol). I got addicted in only 4 weeks of using ONLY the prescribed dose, and the withdrawals were brutal. It's really trading one addiction for another, and you'll have to withdraw all over again.

Admitting that you want to get over this habit is the first step. We can help you if you are willing to ask questions, seek help and listen to people that have been there and done that. I hope that you continue to post and ask for what you need to do to get free of this.

I agree 2 weeks of suffering hell.2nd time for me which is day 15 off sub 4ml no different than ct off oxy and percs.Time does heal you will get breaks I think just to let you know what your fighting for.For me days 5-12 were worst but you keep going and reading everyones post to get through. Its very hard but will be done.It is worth the suffering in the end but you will come back to life.To eveyone suffering breath and relax. You will feel great before you know it.

I also am new to this and am also quitting oxycontin. I was snorting it, around a 40mg a day. I have been reading alot, and I mean alot about it and the withdrawals I am going through. I have not touched it for 3 days now. Everyone tells me that day 3 is the hardest and I hope so. But after 5 days, you should start sleeping better and not having as achy of muscles. I have stayed away from my "frienRAB" that still use and am doing this completely alone. I am still working but barely. I am not sleeping at night even after 8 excedrin pm. What helps me is, tea, a lot of water, and fruits and vegetables. I have been taking IBuprofin to help with the achy muscles and that seems to help a little. I will push my self to walk or jog tonight to get blood circulating and I am sure it is going to be hard. But I will feel better about myself for doing it I might sleep tonight. . I still have diarreah, have cold sweats and hot flashes. I feel like I have the flu but not that bad. The way I look at it is, I have made it this far, what the hell is the point of going back. I also started taking B12 and vitamin C and that helps, well I think it does. I don't know if I helped you at all but wanted to give you the support you need. Really, you can do this and think of how great it will be to be back to your old self again and knowing you kicked it. That is what I am looking forward to, that and the amount of money I will be saving. Oh, hot baths or hot tub, help a ton for the achy muscles.

for sure i agree step by step time does everything pain killers are shitty to get off of but if u can do it ull love life its hard to see that but if u last wit out them ull nvr wanna do that to urself again and will learn a very important life lesson im only 19 and no this bra plz get better
