Trying to make stock mufflers louder

I'm trying to get in a pissing contest here, just didn't think the cats would effect the sound that much. As for as my stock mufflers, my 2010 mufflers are untouched. I drill out the ones from my 05. The windshield came with the bike, I'm sure your did too. The GPS and sat. radio and cup holder came off my 05. The apes were a new exspence for comfort. I'm 6-9 so I get tired of bending over to the stock handle bars. So for now I'll have to make do with drilling out the mufflers. When I do get the funes to buy new pipes, you be the first to know.

Hello there, new here. I was just wondering if, after you drilled out the baffels, have you noticed any engine power degradation, loss of output, over heating, or over all performance drops? I have always heard that without the proper back pressure, you could burn up the valves in your engine because the pressure is being released too early form the head. Now I am no expert, but I was thinking about doing the exact same thing to my dyna, just to make it louder until I can save up the money for a quality set of pipes, but dont know how it will affect my engine. I am tired of getting on the highway and almost being ran over by assh*les and bit*hes who seem to do everything BUT drive there car and cant hear me... Which almost happens quite frequently.
 
Just the opposite, just by drilling out the mufflers, I noticed an increase in power and better mpg. Not enough difference in heat that I can feel. This is the first bike I have ever owned that I'm looking forward to winter.
 
I have an 02 Classic and I hate the stock muffs. Was thinking of drilling them out for now. What size wholesaw would ya recoment.
Ive drilled out my older 86 Softail way back but not sure about these .
Do I drill out along the welded seam or smaller.
Plus will I loose anything by doing this since its fuel injection?

You may want to spend that 1000.00 bucks on a drink leveling system to get it down off the apes without spilling it.

Don't confuse a louder sound with increased performance. My bet is you got zero increase, but only a before and after dyno would know for sure. As far as heat, you changed zilch in the air flow of the machine itself, no matter how much you open up the exhaust, if you did nothing to the intake the air flow is exactly the same, no additional air flow in means no additional air flow out, no matter how big the exit hole is. I don't want to piss anyone off, but a lot of you guys would do well to learn some basic principles of internal combustion engines before you start hacking away at stuff.
 
Hey Sibs

I used an 1 1/8 hole saw to drill out the baffles. I had to make a 14 in. extenion to get down in the muffler to get the bottom baffle out.
 
get a 3ft piece of black iron water pipe.. stick it in and piledrive the pipe and muff agenst concrete or a big stone.knock them out. stock pipes with the baffles knocked out sound ok but not great.. use a metal hole saw and an extension to cut the catilists out
